Note:Â Primary Election Rule
Hawaii voters do not have to declare party affiliations upon registering to vote. This protects their right to secrecy. However, in the Primary Election, voters must choose a Party Preference on the ballot and only those candidates whom they vote for along the Party Preference will be counted. For example, if the Party  Preference you select is Republican, all the candidates you vote for must be on the Republican ballot to count. Then, if you vote for a Democrat in another race, that vote will not count because it doesn’t fall under your chosen Party Preference: Republican.Â

So, in order for your vote for Hope Cresencia for Lieutenant Governor to count, you much vote along the Party Preference of Republican.
